Who is Jim?

After 20 years working in a fast – paced technical industry, managing, coaching & mentoring people, I retrained in Rational Emotive Behavioural Therapy (REBT) as I believe that everyone can find the time to pause, reflect and look internally to enable us to be the best version of ourselves. I thoroughly enjoy working with people and helping them work towards their goals. I also have experience of sitting on the client side of the room and therefore completely understand how you may be feeling about starting therapy, after all, I am a human too!

I am experienced, qualified, non – judgemental, compassionate, straight talking and I keep it simple. If you are reading this, then you must be needing support so why would I not aim to keep things as simple as possible when helping you! I can work alongside you, either in person or online to explore where you are now and help identify what your goals are to help you move forward.

My clients are varied and brilliant. I work with women who are experiencing overwhelm and want to be heard more in life, men who struggle to talk about how they feel, individuals with sexual problems or gender identity challenges, companies that have an idea where they want to go but don`t know where to start the journey, people who want to make specific changes to the way they live, or students who need support on their journey through academia. The list is endless; however, they all achieve the same objective – and that`s meeting their goals by making the change required. Working together we can help you identify changes that need to be made, whether small or large but with impact.

I will work with you to build a bespoke treatment plan depending on your needs and goals that is underpinned by a blend of Psychotherapy called Rational Emotive Behavioural Therapy (REBT/CBT) and Cognitive Behavioural Coaching (CBC). My training and experience across both areas enables me to integrate them where appropriate into the work that I do, amongst other appropriate therapeutic interventions.

REBT is a very effective form of Cognitive Behavioural Therapy (CBT) that looks at the person rather than just the symptoms. Humans are naturally goal-directed but we are also self-defeating and irrational. Most people are not aware that many of their thoughts about themselves are irrational and negatively affect the way they behave in relationships and situations. These thoughts can result in people suffering unhealthy negative emotions and engaging in self-destructive behaviours. Ultimately, REBT recognises that our cognition, emotions, and behaviour are all connected, all interacting and influencing each other and is focused on helping people deal with their irrational beliefs and learn how to manage their emotions, thoughts, and behaviours in a healthier and more realistic way.
